MANASSAS, Va. - Beyond Sports Network (BSN) announced the 2014 Division 2 All America Team, featuring four Delta State University football players. The BSN Division 2 Football All America Team was chosen by College Sports Information Directors, Coaches, and BSN Staff. Only players that were All Region were eligible for the BSN All America Team.
Michael Gibbs, the starter at right guard, was selected as one of five offensive lineman on the First Team. Gibbs, an All-Gulf South First Team selection, graded over 90% on his assignments this season. During the regular season, Gibbs totaled 35 knockdown blocks and three pancake blocks. The offensive line surrendered just eight sacks during the 10 regular season games.
Tyler Sullivan and
Romelo Wilson were selected to the Third Team. Sullivan finished No. 15 in Division-II with 3,358 passing yards while throwing 27 touchdowns. Sullivan was selected as All-GSC Second Team was also a finalist for the Conerly Trophy and the Harlon Hill Award. He has completed 268-of-420 passes (64 percent) for 3,358 yards with 27 touchdowns, while rushing for 208 yards and seven touchdowns on 73 carries. Wilson, an All-GSC Second Team selection, led the Statesmen defense with four interceptions. Wilson was second in the GSC in interceptions, including returning one for a touchdown at Valdosta State. Wilson had 30 tackles in nine games, including 2.0 tackles-for-loss and four pass break-ups.
Casey Osborne was selected as Fourth Team wide receiver. The Flowery Branch, Ga. native hauled in 76 passes for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns. Osborne eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark in six games this season, including three consecutive and five versus GSC opponents. Osborne, an All-GSC First Team selection, was one of 34 receivers to surpass 1,000 yards receiving this season and ranked No. 15 with 6.9 receptions per game.
Delta State won the seventh GSC Championship in school history in 2014 and earned a first round bye in the NCAA Playoffs. The Statesmen offense ranks No. 9 in passing offense with 330.1 yards passing per game, and No. 3 in scoring at 44.6 points per game. The defense for Delta State averaged 10.7 tackles-for-loss per game to end the season No. 2 while also holding the opposition to only 60 percent scoring in the Red Zone for a No. 8 ranking.
