Lady Statesmen Finish Strong in Day 1 of HSU/OBU Invitational

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Statesmen of Delta State University continued their day at the Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Invitational with two more games against Cameron University and Tarleton State University. Delta State fell to Cameron 6-4 but bounced back to thump Tarleton 10-2.

In game two of the afternoon, Cameron jumped ahead of Delta State early in the first inning with two runs. Cameron added three more runs in the second before Delta State's Memrie Corley singled in a run in the bottom half of the second inning. Another Cameron run in the fifth gave them the commanding 6-1 lead through five complete innings. DSU mounted a rally that saw Ashley Mrozinski, Kassidy Tally, and Taylor Holland scoring on a sacrifice fly from Kaitlin Moore and a single from Amber Adcock in the seventh inning. The late rally was not enough for the Lady Statesmen as they fell to Cameron by a final of 6-4.

Freshman Macie Wilde got the nod for her collegiate debut and got the loss, pitching one inning, giving up five earned runs on seven hits. Kaitlin Moore came on for relief and pitched six strong innings, allowing one run on just three hits.

DSU bounced back in a big way for game three of the day as its offense combined for ten runs in six innings against Tarleton State.

Kassidy Tally scored on a Tarleton error to give Delta State the early 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Tarleton responded with a run in the second and third innings to take the lead 2-1 after three complete innings. The Lady Statesmen regained the lead, 4-2, with three runs in the fifth on a 2 RBI single from Kailtin Moore to score Kassidy Tally and Memrie Corley and a Mariah Alvarez double to score Taylor Holland. The DSU offense really turned it on in the top of the sixth by scoring six runs. Corely, Tally, Holland, Moore, Andrea Cutts, and Amber Adcock all crossed home plate on three RBI walks, a Tarleton error and a groundout RBI from Alvarez. Delta State claimed the 10-2 victory in mercy rule fashion.

Kaitlin Moore led the Green-and-White as she drove in four of the ten runs for Delta State.

Taylor Tucker had a stellar performance in the circle as she pitch six innings, giving up one earned run on four hits.

The Lady Statesmen are now 2-1 on the season, heading into day two of the tournament where they will face the hosting teams Henderson State at 12:00 p.m. and Ouachita Baptist at 2:30 p.m.
