GAME NOTES: West Alabama @ Delta State (2.15-16.14)
CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State University softball (4-5) will open conference play against the Tigers of West Alabama at University Field with a double header on Saturday, Feb. 15 and a single game to round out the series on Sunday, Feb. 16. The double header on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., while the first pitch for the single game on Sunday will be at 1:00 p.m.
THE LEADOFF
Delta State University's softball team has been hard at work the past two weekends as they opened up the 2014 season at the Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Invitational and the Charger Chillout.
The Lady Statesmen are currently 4-5 on the season as they enter their first conference series with West Alabama, a true test for the talented crew head coach
Casey Bourgoyne-Charles has
assembled.
Brandon, Miss., native
Amber Adcock has returned for her junior season with Delta State for the 2014 campaign. She leads the team in offense with a .452 batting average after going 10-for-20 at the Charger Chillout.
Freshman
Taylor Tucker is making her mark in the circle for the Green-and-White as she went 2-0 in her first two outings for Delta State at the HSU/OBU Invitational. She gave up a combined two runs, one earned, on nine hits in 13.0 innings pitched in two games, while also recording a shutout in her debut. She is currently 4-1 on the season.
Memrie Corley had a standout performance at the Henderson State/Ouachita Baptist Invitational. As a slapper, Corley went 4-for-6 in three games, scoring three times and driving in one run.
The fastest Lady Statesmen on the squad in 2013,
Kassidy Tally, returns to contribute her speed to the success of the Green-and-White this season. Tally was 5-of-6 in stolen bases at the HSU/OBU Invitational, a great start to the season, foreshadowing her efforts for the year.
A fresh group of talent fills the 2014 roster. Half of the squad is made up of players new to Delta State, five freshmen and three junior transfers.
Freshman catcher
Madison Zoeller had a stellar performance at the Charger Chillout. She recorded her first collegiate hit and never looked back, going 4-for-10 and driving in six runs.
Southaven, Miss., native
Kaitlin Moore returns from last season as a power hitter from the left side, hitting .333 on the season.
Junior
Brook Cline returns for her third with the Lady Statesmen and has started every game at third base. She is hitting .370 on the season with five RBI.
