Statesmen Tennis completes weekend versus trio of ranked opponents

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -
The Delta State tennis is coming off a three-day weekend tournament in Arkadelphia, Ark., where they faced three programs ranked in the ITA pre-season polls. The Statesmen lost to No. 39 Harding University on Friday, were victorious against No. 30 Southwest Baptist University on Saturday, and were defeated by No. 29 Drury University on Sunday.

On Friday's match against the Bison of Harding, DSU split with HU in singles play and claimed victory in one match from doubles competition. The experienced duo of Florian Mondoloni and Guillaume Lacour defeated the team of Mathaus Spiering and Jon Mark Rowden 8-6. In singles play, Mondoloni and Lacour were also victorious along with Clement Depreeuw.

The following day, the Statesmen faced off against the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist. Although they were swept in doubles play, DSU won five of six singles matches, coming away with a 5-4 victory against SBU.

Delta State was handed a 7-2 loss in the final day of action to Drury University, ending the weekend with a 1-2 mark for the Statesmen.  DSU managed to pick up victories in singles action from Mondoloni and Lacour.

The Delta State men's team now has an overall record of 2-2. The Statesmen return to action on February 28 from Memphis, Tenn., as they visit Christian Brothers University for the first Gulf South Conference action this season. The only meeting from last season between the two schools was a Statesmen victory, 9-0, from Cleveland.
