HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Delta State University softball (3-4) continued tournament play at the Charger Chillout on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Statesmen suffered two losses to Saint Joseph's College, 4-3, and St. Edward's, 7-0.
Game one was a matchup between Saint Joseph's College and Delta State. The Lady Statesmen looked to build on their 1-1 record at the Chillout, while the Pumas were looking for their first win.
Scoring started in the bottom of the second innings when Delta State's
Kara Lane Nowell grounded out to second base to score
Kaitlin Moore from third, taking the 1-0 lead after two complete innings. The Green-and-White plated another run the next inning on a two-out RBI double courtesy of
Taylor Holland, scoring
Kassidy Tally and extending the DSU lead to 2-0. Saint Joseph's responded in the top frame of the fourth inning by scoring four runs on five hits. Delta State fought back within one run in the bottom of the fifth on an
Amber Adcock double to center field, scoring Holland, notching the score at 4-3 in favor of Saint Joseph's. Delta State was not able to muster up enough momentum to get another run across the plate, resulting in the 4-3 loss to Saint Joseph's.
The Green-and-White racked up seven hits from six different Lady Statesmen.
Taylor Holland led game one, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman
Macie Wilde got the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year.
Game two of the afternoon featured St. Edward's University and the Lady Statesmen. The Hilltoppers came out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and continued to extend their lead. They added two more runs in the second and three in the fifth to take the commanding 6-0 lead over DSU. SEU tacked on another run in the seventh. Delta State never found momentum as they went down in the bottom frames of the sixth and seventh, getting shutout 7-0.
Amber Adock produced two of the total five hits DSU had against St. Edward's.

Memrie Corley were responsible for the others.
Taylor Tucker got the loss in the circle for the Green-and-White, her first of the season.
Delta State returns to the field for the last day of the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 9. Game times have been changed for the third and final day of the Charger Chillout. DSU will now play Maryville University at 9:00 a.m. and Georgia Regents University at 11:00 a.m.
