GAME NOTES:
Delta State @ Union (3.15-16.14)
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State Lady Statesmen softball team is gearing up for a road trip to Jackson, Tenn., to face the Lady Bulldogs of Union University. The double-header will be played Saturday, March 15 starting at 11:00 a.m. with the single game being played on Sunday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m.
THE LEADOFF
The Delta State Lady Statesmen are coming off a strong conference series with Christian Brothers in which they swept the Lady Bucs in the three-game series.
DSU also picked up a split with the Bison of Harding to improve to 12-13 on the season.
Taylor Holland received the most recent Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honor for her performance against Christian Brothers.
Holland went 7-for-10 at the plate in the three-game series including a perfect 3-for-3 performance in the series finale. She drove in three runs and scored five times to earn the accolade.
Mariah Alvarez also had a standout performance against the Lady Bucs. Alvarez recorded six hits in 11 at-bats, scoring once and driving in four runs.
Sophomore
Kassidy Tally is well on her way to the record books for Delta State softball. Tally is 28-of-30 in stolen bases this season, bringing her career stolen base count to 65 in just two seasons.
The Lady Statesmen took game one 8-1, game two 5-1, and game three 10-2 in five innings to improve to 5-7 in conference play.
Later in the week, Delta State took one out of two in Searcy, Ark., against the Bison of Harding. DSU took game one 7-5 but turned around and fell 3-2 in eight innings in game two of the double header.
The Green-and-White outhit Harding 13-10 in game one but HU took the 8-3 advantage in hits in game two.
In game one,
Mariah Alvarez carried her momentum from earlier in the week, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Kaitlin Moore led the series with the Bison going 2-for-4 in game one and 2-for-3 in game two.
Amber Adcock recorded the other hit for DSU in game two.
This week the Lady Statesmen face the Lady Bulldogs of Union University as they travel to Jackson, Tenn., for a three-game conference series.
