VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lady Statesmen of Delta State looked to avoid the conference series sweep with the Lady Blazers, but Valdosta's eleven hits in game three hoisted VSU over Delta State 9-1 in five innings.
Delta State falls to 8-12 on the season and 2-6 in Gulf South Conference play, while VSU improves to 17-6 overall and 4-3 in league play as they take the series with a sweep.
The Green-and-White held Valdosta to a close game through three innings in the final game of the series. Delta State got the scoring started first early in the first inning when
Kassidy Tally drew a leadoff walk, later stole second, and advanced to third on an
Amber Adcock single. Adcock was later called out when she purposefully got in a run down trying to steal second, attempting to score Tally from third. The diversion worked as Tally was able to cross the plate, putting DSU on the board first, 1-0, which would be its only run of the day.
The Lady Statesmen held the lead until the bottom of the third, and then the Lady Blazers unleashed their offense with four hits that produced four runs, giving VSU the 4-1 advantage over DSU.
Valdosta continued to put runs on the board, scoring two more runs on three hits in the fourth to lead Delta State 6-1. The Lady Blazers closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth with three consecutive hits, the last being a three-run blast to put Valdosta up 9-1 over DSU.
DSU was one-hit by the Lady Blazer pitching staff.
Amber Adcock was responsible for the lone hit.
Kassidy Tally was the only Lady Statesmen to cross the plate. She recorded a stolen base, her 22nd of the season.
