THE LEADOFF
DSU softball is coming off a tough sweep at Arkansas-Monticello during mid-week non-conference action.
The Green-and-White lost two close contests to the Cotton Blossoms earlier this week by one run each, dropping game one 3-2 and game two 5-4 in eleven innings.
Junior first baseman
Taylor Holland continued her hot streak at the plate as she went 3-for-9 in the double-header in Monticello.
Saginaw, Texas native
Mariah Alvarez is warming up after missing the first eleven games of the season. She now leads the team in offense with a .379 batting average and .455 on-base percentage.
Power-hitting lefty
Kaitlin Moore picked up her second homerun of the season when she launched a three-run shot over the right-center field fence in game two against Arkansas-Monticello. She now leads the team in homeruns.
5-8 sophomore outfielder
Kassidy Tally has proven to be one of the fastest athletes in the Gulf South Conference. Tally leads the league in stolen bases with 31 with the closest behind her having 24. She is also tied for third in runs scored with 32.
Tally is moving her way up the list in the record book in the stolen bases category. With 31 stolen bases just half way through the season, she is close to matching her 37 stolen bases last season. But she won't stop there. Tally is currently fourth in Delta State softball history in career-stolen bases in just one and a half years with the Lady Statesmen.
Delta State faces a tough test this weekend as they welcome the No. 2 Lady Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville to University Field for a three-game conference series.
Huntsville is proving they are one of the most competitive softball programs in the conference as they boost a 19-4 overall record and are ranked third in the conference.
The Lady Chargers are batting .339 on the season and are 101-110 in stolen bases. Their pitching staff has posted a 1.91 ERA.
DSU will take on UAH in a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 with a single game starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.
