CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State men and women's tennis teams faced off against the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers and Lady Chargers in Gulf South Conference action this past Friday.
The No. 34 ranked Statesmen came away with a 6-3 victory over UAH, evening their overall record to 4-4 this season and a 2-1 record in the GSC. Delta State began the day sweeping the Chargers in doubles competition before earning a split in singles play; with
Florian Mondoloni,
Arthur Berthiaux and
Clement Depreeuw picking up three wins.
The Lady Statesmen fell to UAH for their second conference loss of the season with a 2-7 defeat.
Alex Howe and
Sophia Luisa Niemeyer picked up the team's lone win in doubles competition, 8-2.
Katharina Assmann was the sole victor for Delta State with a solid win in singles play. The Lady Statesmen now has a 4-6 record overall with a 2-2 GSC record.
The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen will now travel to Pensacola, Fla., on a weekend road trip starting March 28th which will include two Gulf South Conference opponents in Valdosta State University and the University of West Florida. Delta State will then return back home on April 1st in time for Senior Day when they will face Stillman College.
