THE LEADOFF
DSU softball suffered a tough conference sweep last weekend when the No. 2 Lady Chargers took two games out of three from the Lady Statesmen.
The series with Huntsville proved to be a close one as all three games were decided by one run.
Amber Adcock had one of her best performances on the weekend, going 8-for-13 at the plate. Adcock saved the best for last, hitting 4-for-5 in the conclusion of the series, narrowly missing hitting for the cycle with two singles, a double, and a homerun.
Raleigh, Miss., native
Kassidy Tally continues to light up the bases with her speed. Tally now stands with 36 stolen bases on the season in 38 attempts. She leads the conference in stolen bases with the closest behind her having 26.
Tally also ranks third in the league in runs scored with 35.
This weekend the Green-and-White take on the Wolves of West Georgia in a three-game conference series in Carrollton, Ga.
With a 15-15 record overall and a 6-8 record in league play, the Wolves enter the series with Delta State after dropping the previous series with West Florida one game to two.
Two West Georgia batters are batting over .300, Heather Crow and Nicole Yancey. Crow is a one-time GSC Player of the Week this season, while Yancey has been awarded the honor twice.
Mariah Alvarez,
Amber Adcock,
Kaitlin Moore, and
Kassidy Tally are all batting over .300 with Alvarez leading the pack with a .371 batting average. The Saginaw, Texas native also leads the team in on-base percentage (.443).
Last season saw the two squads meeting four times, and DSU taking the 3-1 advantage of UWG.
The three-game series will be evenly matched as Delta State sits at No. 7 in the GSC standings and West Georgia holds the No. 6 spot.
