THE LEADOFF
The Lady Statesmen are coming off an important series with Southern-Arkansas, a series that saw DSU taking the series 3-1 to improve to .500 on the year.

Delta State had an off week from Gulf South Conference play but pick right back up this weekend when the Green-and-White travel to Rome, Ga., to take on Shorter University.

But first DSU will begin a seven-game stretch in four days, starting at home on Wednesday, April 16 when the Lady Statesmen take on the Cotton Blossoms of Arkansas-Monticello.

The next leg of the road trip will take place in Tuscaloosa, Ala., when DSU will face Stillman College in doubleheader action.

A last stop in Rome, Ga., marks the last stop in the road trip when Delta State takes on Shorter University for a three-game Gulf South Conference series.

Kaitlin Moore has stepped up to the plate and delivered for the Green-and-White as she went 12-for-16 in the series with SAU, driving in seven runs. Moore now leads the team in batting average with a .393. Moore went 3-for-4 in every game with the Lady Muleriders. She is currently on a 12-game hit streak in the three spot and has 15 RBIs in the last 10 games.

Sophomore Kassidy Tally continues to light up the base paths as she leads the league in stolen bases with 49. Tally has been without a stolen base in only 12 games out of the total 42 games this year.

Delta State currently ranks 22nd in the country in stolen bases as a team with 75 on the year. That is mainly thanks to Tally, who ranks second in the nation in stolen bases.

Moore is ranked 8th in the conference in batting average, while Mariah Alvarez ranks 11th with a .377 average.

The 2014 campaign is drawing to a close as the Lady Statesmen wrap up conference play on April 25 and 26 when Delta State faces off with West Florida before beginning play at the Gulf South Conference tournament beginning on May 1.
