THE LEADOFF
DSU softball is coming off a fantastic conference weekend with West Georgia that saw the Lady Statesmen taking two games out of three from the Wolves.

Delta State clinched the series win on Sunday in the double-header by taking two wins, 4-2 in game one and 9-5 in game two.

West Georgia spoiled the series sweep on Monday in the single-game series finale when UWG took game three 7-3.

The Lady Statesmen will have their hands full this weekend with the Lady Flames of Lee University, the newest member of the Gulf South Conference.

Lee is in its first year of the transition phase to the NCAA Division II. It will be a full member in the 2015-2016 season.

The DSU pitching staff will have their hands full with the Gulf South Conference offensive leader Ana Coscorrosa.

Coscorrosa is batting .479 on the year to lead all batters in the league. She also leads the conference in RBI with 48 and doubles with 14.

Outfielder Memrie Corley had a lights-out performance in the series with West Georgia as she went 8-for-10 with eight singles against the Wolves.

Saginaw, Texas native Mariah Alvarez continues to be the driving force behind the Delta State offense as she leads the team with a .378 batting average.

Sophomore Kassidy Tally picked up three stolen bases on the weekend to notch her season stolen base number at 39.

The Lady Statesmen will hit the road for a midweek road trip following the series with Lee.

The first leg of the trip will be to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Stillman College with the week wrapping up in Magnolia, Ark., against Southern Arkansas.

DSU will take on both opponents in double-header action. The Stillman series will be played on Wednesday, April 9 starting at 1:00 p.m., and the series with Southern Arkansas being on Friday, April 11 starting at 2:00 p.m.
