THE LEADOFF
Delta State softball is gearing up to wrap up the 2014 campaign this weekend against the Lady Argos of West Florida.

The Lady Argos enter the matchup ranked fourth in the Gulf South Conference rankings, while Delta State holds the No. 6 spot.

Game one of doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 represents Senior Day for Megan Mayfield and Miller Maddox. Senior Day will begin at 11:30 a.m.

DSU had a long, grueling schedule last week, as the Lady Statesmen took on seven games in four days.

To start the week, Delta State split with Arkansas-Monticello, swept Stillman, and suffered the conference series sweep at Shorter.

At the beginning of this week, the Green-and-White split a doubleheader with Harding University, falling in game one 7-3 but bouncing back to take game two 7-2.

Outstanding performances were had by Kassidy Tally, Macie Wilde, Mariah Alvarez, and Amber Adcock in the series with the Bison.

Tally racked up three stolen bases to put her at 58 total on the year, just two away from the school and GSC record for stolen bases in a single season.

The Raleigh, Miss., native remains No. 2 in the country in stolen bases in NCAA Division II.

Macie Wilde continued her excellent performance in the circle for the Lady Statesmen, no hitting Stillman College in DSU's five-inning win and getting the complete-game win in game two against Harding.

Wilde went 5.1 innings with a perfect game before the first base-runner was allowed and was one out away from a no-hitter, pitching 6.2 innings with no hits from the Bison.

Alvarez and Adcock each went 3-for-8 on the day, both scoring three times and Alvarez driving in three runs.

After the completion of the three-game conference series with West Florida, Delta State, along with all the other teams in the conference will be preparing for the Gulf South Conference tournament in Cullman, Ala.
