CLEVELAND, Miss. – Today marked the Delta State tennis team's annual Senior Day. Three Statesmen were honored this afternoon prior to their impressive display over the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College with a 9-0 victory.
The day began with a special presentation lead by head coach
Asa Atkinson, showing gratitude to fellow seniors
Guillaume Lacour,
Florian Mondoloni, and
Sebastien Rajaonary. Each player was given a commemorative poster, listing each other's achievements over the years. This season so far, Guillaume has 7 wins in singles action and 8 wins in doubles along with his partner, Florian, who has compiled 10 singles victories on the season. Meanwhile, Sebastien has 4 wins in singles, while picking up 7 garnering 7 in doubles by teaming up with
Daniel Veiga and
Clement Depreeuw.
After the ceremony, DSU took to the court to take on LOC in dominating fashion. Two of the nine matches included singles victories from
Leon Smart, who won 6-0, 6-0, and
Guillermo Cerrato-Saura, who followed up with the same result, 6-0, 6-0.
Delta State is now 8-6 on the season with a 5-3 record in the Gulf South Conference. They will now turn their attention to Alcorn State University for the final match of the regular season and will then move forward to the GSC Tennis Championships in Montgomery, Ala. The Statesmen's match against the Braves is scheduled to occur on April 10
th, while the GSC tournament will be held on April 17
th.
