Box Score CULLMAN, Ala. – The semifinal game of the Gulf South Conference tournament ended in disappointment for the Delta State University softball team, falling to No. 2 Alabama-Huntsville 10-0.
Delta State fell behind, 2-0, to the No. 1 seed in the tournament in the first inning on a two-run home run.
Two more runs were tacked on in the third by the Chargers, extending their lead to 4-0.
The Lady Statesmen could never build any momentum to plate a run, and then Huntsville scored six more runs in the fifth to take the 10-0 lead and the win, eliminating DSU from the conference tournament.
Delta State had two hits from the top two batters in the lineup,
Kassidy Tally and
Mariah Alvarez.
Miller Maddox (9-9) suffered the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up ten runs on eight hits.
Amber Adcock, Tally, and Maddox were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances over the weekend. Adcock finished the weekend, going 7-for-16 with ten RBI and five runs, including three home runs. Tally completed the tournament, going 9-for-16 at the plate with two RBI, crossing the plate five times, and grabbing nine stolen bases. She had at least one hit in all five games. Maddox was in the circle for the majority of the tournament, pitching 23.0 innings and giving up 13 earned runs on 20 hits. She walked seven and struck out eleven.
