Box Score CLINTON, Mississippi – The Delta State University Statesmen Soccer team tallied their first victory of the season in the Gulf South Conference opener on the road at Mississippi College, 4-2.
Amine RahmaniThe Statesmen (1-3, 1-0 GSC) offense came together in this match to net a season-high four goals.
Amine Rahmani lead the way with one goal and two assists. He also tallied two shots on goal.
The Green-and-White jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half with goals from
Andrew Aur,
Jaxon Lambert, and
Bryce Childers. Aur scored the first goal of the game in the 29th minute as he saw his first action of the season. Lambert netted his second goal of the season in the 32nd minute. Lambert would then, just ten minutes later, join Rahmani registering the assist on Childers first goal of his season.
Rahmani scored the final Statesmen goal in the 55th minute to cap off the offensive charge.
Mississippi College (3-2, 0-1 GSC) added two late goal to draw the final.
Jacob Hauenstein tallied four saves as his counterpart, Humberto Pelaez, gloved a pair of saves.
The Choctaws held the 18-11 advantage in shots over the Statesmen as well as leading the way with a 9-3 corner kick advantage.
Delta State will return to Delta Field as they take on Faulkner University on Saturday, Sept. 20th at 3:30 p.m.
