Box Score CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Delta State University Statesmen soccer team grabbed a huge win today at Delta Field over the Eagles of Faulkner University, 1-0.
After nearly connecting throughout the first 70 minutes, the Statesmen finally broke through in the 71st minute.
Jaxon Lambert cracked a shot from inside the penalty area that took a rebound off the keeper to the feet of
Ricardo Filho to light the scoreboard for DSU (2-3-0).
Both sides had multiple opportunities to score throughout the match. Delta State goalkeeper,
Jonathan Hilton, was key supplying great saves. His best save coming in the final minutes of the game on a point blank shot to conceal the shutout.
The Green-and-White defense held strong blocking a total of three shots on frame.
Andrew Aur and
Pedro Verissimo proved to the anchor of the back line.
The Eagles (3-2-1) outshot the Statesmen 13-11, while Delta State held the advantage in corner kicks 6-3. Hilton gloved a total of five saves while his opponent, Pritchard Ndaira, had six.
Delta State returns to the pitch Monday, Sept. 22nd at 4 p.m. to face LSU-Alexandria in Alexandria, Louisiana to make-up the previously postponed match.
