DSU Suffers Loss to UAH in OT, 2-1

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Delta State (3-5, 1-2 GSC) men's soccer suffered its second overtime loss in as many matches to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (7-1, 2-0 GSC), 2-1.
 
The Statesmen held the momentum in the first half and finally broke through in the 33rd minute. Amine Rahmani put DSU ahead when he netted a penalty kick past the Charger keeper, Michael Winstone, to make it a 1-0 game.
 
The Chargers had some opportunities to find the equalizer but were spoiled by Jonathan Hilton's solid performance in net for the Green-and-White. The score remained in Delta State's favor as the teams headed to their benches for halftime.
 
Momentum took a swing in the 65th minute when Hermann Bjornsson received a ball across the net from Rafn Haraldsson and scored the equalizer for UAH.
 
DSU continued to fight to hold off the Charger press.  They were able to keep the score at a standstill and force the match into overtime.
 
UAH's offense broke through in the fourth minute of extra time. Ian Dempsey received a ball from about 30 yards out from Kyle Simmons and Rafn Haraldsson. Dempsey headed the ball just out of the reach of Hilton and into the net to break the tie. The Charger golden-goal made the final 2-1.
 
UAH held the advantage in shots 29-8 and led in shots on goal, 8-3. Hilton grabbed four saves while Winstone made two. The Chargers also had control of corner kick opportunities, 9-3.
 
The Statesmen return to Delta Field on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. as they take on Ouachita Baptist University in a non-conference match-up.
