DSU Women's Hoops Renew Rivalry With Mississippi College

GAME NOTES: Delta State Lady Statesmen at Mississippi College (1.17.15)

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State and Missisisppi College meet for the first time in women's basketball since 1996 on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Clinton, Missisisppi. The Lady Statesmen enter the game on a four-game winning streak and have won their last four games on the road.

Streaking:  Delta State has won four straight and five of its last six games in Gulf South Conference play entering tonight's game against Mississippi College. The Lady Statesmen have won its last four games onDSU has climbed into third with a 6-4 GSC record behind Union and West Florida who sit atop the standings at 8-2.

On the Road:  The Mississippi College game begins a stretch of 17 days away from Walter Sillers Coliseum, marking the longest stretch of the season without a home game for the Lady Statesmen.  DSU travels to West Alabama (1.22.15) and West Georgia (1.24.15) before returning home to host Union (1.29.15) and Christian Brothers (1.31.15). 

Delta State and Mississippi College meet for the first time since the 1995-96 season when the Lady Statesmen claimed a 76-65 win over the Choctaws in Clinton, Mississippi (2,24.96).   Delta State has won the last six meetings and five straight at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Stingy D:  The Lady Statesmen have held the last four opponents to an average of 19 points below their season averages.  On Monday, the Green and White held Shorter to 36 points, 31 points below its season average (67). Previously, DSU held UNA to 61 points, 19 points below its season average (80.7). UAH scored 49 points, nine points below its norm (58.8), and limited Lee to 49 points, 17 points shy of its season average (66).

Career Watch:  Walton now has 1,065 career points and needs 13 points  to move into 30th past Shawana Wright (1,077/1997-2000) on the all-time scoring list.  Walton ranks seventh with 108 career-blocks and has 720 career rebounds, 14 shy of 13th.  Ball has 203 career-steals, six away from moving into the top 10.  Rhodes ranks eighth in career 3-pointers made with 111 (319 attempts), is four away from moving into seventh past Felicia Wright (115/1994-97).

Rhandi Ball leads the GSC (30th/NCAA) with 2.6 steals per game; 9th with 6.6 rebounds per game; 12th with 2.6 assists per game; 14th with 11.9 points per game;  

Chelsey Rhodes ranks 10th in the GSC in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game while her 83.3 free throw percentage is second. She also ranks 11th in 3-point field goals made

Seneca Walton is fourth in the GSC with one block per game and ranks 8th with 6.7 rebounds per game.

Lloyd Clark Court: The Walter Sillers court was officially named Lloyd Clark Court during a ceremony following DSU's game against Lee (1.10.15)  . Clark led the Lady Statesmen program for 19 seasons, winning 3 NCAA Division II titles (1988-89, 1989-89, 1991-92) and 10 GSC Championships. The Drew, Mississippi, native compiled a 494-98 record and a 206-38 GSC mark.
