  • Series: The Lady Statesmen and Lady Buccaneers have met 41 times, with Delta State dominating the series 38-3. CBU claimed a 61-40 victory in the first meeting of the season on Dec. 11 at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn.
  • Short Story: Delta State University's Rhandi Ball scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Lady Statesmen to a 53-33 victory over Christian Brothers University in Gulf South Conference women's basketball at Walter Sillers Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 31. The victory was the fourth-straight for the Lady Statesmen, who have worked their way back into the regular season title race after battling injuries at the start of the season. Chelsey Rhodes and Seneca Walton joined Ball in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.

How It Happened
  • Delta State University used stifling defense Saturday to defeat Christian Brothers University 53-33. The Lady Statesmen held the Lady Buccaneers to 25 percent shooting for the game on 12-of-48 from the field. CBU also turned the ball over 19 times, leading to 11 Lady Statesmen points. There were two stretches of over nine minutes without a basket for CBU during the contest. 
  • The Lady Statesmen shot 42.3 percent for the game on 22-of-52 attempts. DSU owned the paint, outscoring CBU 28-8 and 10-5 on second chances.
  • DSU dominated the glass Saturday with a 42-31 edge in rebounding and handed out 19 assists to CBU's three. 
  • Rhandi Ball led the Lady Statesmen with 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the victory. The Pontotoc, Miss., native was 4-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-4 at the free throw line in the win.
  • Sophomore point guard Carly Keller scored six points and handed out a game-high five assists.
  • Seneca Walton scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds for the Lady Statesmen. It was her ninth-straight game with double figures.
  • Chelsey Rhodes grabbed a season-high six rebounds, while scoring 11 points for the Lady Statesmen.
  • CBU's Breanna Ridgell led all scorers with 17 points. The senior from Memphis, Tenn., finished with a double-double after clearing 10 rebounds.  

Beyond the Numbers
  • Home Sweet Home: Lloyd Clark Court at Walter Sillers Coliseum has been good to the Lady Statesmen this season, as DSU owns an 8-2 record at home. Delta State averages 62.2 points per game at Sillers, while holding the opposition to 34.1 percent from the field and 22 percent from 3-point range.
  • Delta D: The Lady Statesmen are one of the nation's top defensive squads, allowing opponents 57.5 points per game to rank first in the GSC and 15th nationally.
  • Road to 1,000 Points: Senior forward Seneca Walton (1,161) and junior shooting guard Chelsey Rhodes (1,034) have already joined the 1,000 Point Club this season. Senior small forward Rhandi Ball needs 18 points to join the club. The Pontotoc, Miss., native has scored 982 points and cleared 654 rebounds in her 108 games as a Lady Statesman.
  • Double Trouble: Senior forward and All-America candidate Seneca Walton is currently second on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg), but leads the team in rebounding (7.4 rbg). The Clarksdale, Miss., native has recorded back-to-back double-doubles, as the Lady Statesmen defeated West Georgia 64-59 and Union 74-71 in overtime. Walton scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed 11 boards at UWG, while following up that performance with 20 points and 12 boards against UU.
  • Junior Chelsey Rhodes is leading the Lady Statesmen in scoring this season, averaging 15.6 points per game. The Monticello, Ark., native ranks fifth in GSC in scoring and second in free throw percentage (81.7).

Who's Next
  • The Lady Statesmen travel to Pensacola, Florida, to face the Argonauts of the University of West Florida. UWF is currently in second place in the race for the Gulf South Conference regular season title.
