IN THE PAINTLloyd Clark Court Dedication: Following the Women's Game versus Lee University, the court inside Walter Sillers Coliseum will be dedicated in honor of Coach Lloyd Clark. Clark was at the helm of the Lady Statesmen program for 19 seasons, winning three NCAA Division II titles (1988-89, 1989-89, 1991-92) and 10 GSC Championships. The Drew, Mississippi, native compiled a 494-98 overall and a 206-38 GSC mark during his tenure.
Last Time Out (1.5.15): Rhandi Ball, Chelsey Rhodes, Toya Collins and Seneca Walton scored in double figures to lead Delta State to a 67-49 Gulf South victory over the Alabama-Huntsville. Ball led the Lady Statesmen with 18 points and nine rebounds followed by Rhodes and Collins with 12 and Walton with 10. Collins' effort marked a new career-high while collecting five rebounds.
Delta State and Lee University meet for the third time with both meetings taking place last season. The series is tied 1-1 with each team winning on the others home floor.
Defense, Defense, Defense: The Lady Statesmen have held their last two opponents well below their season scoring average. DSU held UNA 61 points, 19 points below its season average of 80.7 points while UAH scored 49 points, nine points below its 58.8 norm.
DSU In The GSC Stats: 56.8 ppg. allowed (2nd); 39.2 field goal percentage defense (5th); 41.5 field goal percentage (5th); .81 assist/turnover ratio (4th); 66.9 FT percentage (4th).
Career Watch: After her 10-point outing against UAH, Walton now has 1,044 career points, eight points shy of moving past Lynn Rose (1,051 pts/1994-96) on DSU's career scoring list. The Clarksdale, Mississippi, native needs 29 rebounds to break onto the all-time rebounds list. Ball has 202 career-steals, seven away from moving into the top 10. Rhodes ranks eighth in career 3-pointers made with 107 (319 attempts), is nine away from moving into seventh past Felicia Wright (115/1994-97).
Rhandi Ball leads the conference with three steals per game and ranks 12th with 2.7 assists per contest; She is second on the team with 12.7 points and six rebounds per game, ranking 11th and 13th in the GSC.
Chelsey Rhodes ranks 10th in the GSC in scoring, averaging 14 points per game while her 83.3 free throw percentage is third. Her six assists versus UAH set a new career-high.
Seneca Walton leads DSU with 6.5 rebounds per contest and ranks fourth in the league with 1.1 blocks per game (11 total).
DSU was picked first in the Preseason GSC Coaches Poll. Chelsey Rhodes and Seneca Walton were named Preseason All-GSC team.
This is the 49th season of Lady Statesmen Basketball with an all-time record of 1,072-267-3 record.
One of the nation's most successful women's programs, Delta State has made 26 NCAA postseason appearances with 55 tournament victories, 13 Elite Eight appearances, nine Final Four berths, and six NCAA/AIAW National Championships. The Lady Statesmen's 55 NCAA Tournament victories are also a Division II record.
