TIP-OFF
The Green-and-White are coming off a stellar performance at the GSC/SSC Showdown that saw DSU go 2-0, highlighted by a 77-63 defeat of the defending DII National Champion Florida Southern. Delta State opened the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season under Coach Steve Rives. That squad finished the season with a 30-2 record overall and a 16-0 league mark.
Delta State faces one of the tougher teams on its schedule in No. 2/3 Tarleton State University on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The Texans made an impressive postseason run last year to the Final Four before falling to Indiana University (Pa.) 72-68. The two squads will meet for the third time in a battle of the unbeatens, as TSU enters the contest 2-0. Delta State and Tarleton have each won at home in the previous two contests.
Head Coach
Jim Boone is eight wins away from topping 400 wins at the Division II level and 16 away from eclipsing the 500-career wins mark. The Winfield, W.V., native boasts a .659 winning percentage (392-203) in DII.
Devin Schmidt continues climb through the Delta State record book. The 6-foot-4 guard ranks 12th on the all-time scoring list with 1,163 points in two years and two games. The junior needs 56 points to break into the top 10 and 636 to match the leading scorer Carl Brown (1983-86) with 1,799.
The newcomers have adjusted quickly and stepped into big roles early in the season.
James Kilpatrick,
Terry Morris,
John Cornish,
Dakota Dailey and
Brett Warner are averaging 19 points and 15 rebounds per game. Kilpatrick leads the team in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game, while Morris averages 4.0 assists per game at the lead of DSU's offense.
