GAME NOTES: Lady Statesmen Basketball Hosts Harding, Arkansas Tech

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State University women's basketball (1-0) opens its 2015-16 home slate against former Gulf South Conference members Harding University (2-1) and No. 18 Arkansas Tech University (4-0) on Friday and Sunday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.

  • The Harding Series: The Lady Statesmen lead the series 21-4 after Harding captured a 65-40 win in the 2014-15 season opener for the Lady Statesmen. Delta State is 10-1 against the Bisons at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum. Harding's lone win at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum dates to a 71-65 win on January 6, 2005.
  • The Arkansas Tech Series:  This will be the 52nd meeting in the series with the Lady Statesmen holding a 30-21 advantage. Arkansas Tech grabbed a 72-61 win (11.21.14) at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Ark. The Green-and-White own a 10-4 record against ATU at at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.
  • Last Time Out For DSU: Delta State ran out to an early 18-2 lead in the opening quarter before holding on for a 55-53 win at Miles College on Sunday. Chelsey Rhodes led the Lady Statesmen with 17 points while junior.Aspriona Gilbert collected added 11 points and nine rebounds. Junior Mary Carol Davis grabbed a career-high seven boards. Senior Beccca Ruckes chipped in 11 points with five rebounds. The Lady Statesmen defense limited Miles to one field goal over the final 2:32 and two points on just two free throws in the final 1:51 of the fourth quarter.

  • Juniors Aspriona Gilbert, and Kaelin Kneelend and freshman Alondrea Rush officially made their Lady Statesmen debut against Miles. Kneelend scored four points and made 2-of-4 field goals.
  • In her first career start at point guard versus Miles, Rush recorded five assists, four rebounds, three and one steal in 32 minutes.
  • Delta State is 37-0-1 in home openers and 1-0 under second-year Head Coach Craig Roden. The Lady Statesmen defeated Stillman 61-35 to open the 2014-15 home slate.
