TIP-OFF
The Delta State University Statesmen improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference play before the holiday break with a road win over Valdosta State on Dec. 19, 69-64.
DSU will face a pair of tough opponents entering 2016 in North Alabama and Alabama Huntsville. Last season saw the Statesmen sweep the series with UNA and split the series with UAH.
Although, the Lions hold the slim advantage in the overall series 42-41, Delta State is 24-16 against UNA at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Statesmen have played well at home, boasting a 4-0 mark in Cleveland this season. The series with the Chargers is short-lived and has proven to provide great competition in recent years, but the Green-and-White own the series 17-12 and are 9-3 all time against UAH at home.
As a team, the Statesmen rank second in the GSC in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense, holding their opponents to 67.4 points per game and 41.5 percent shooting from the field.
