Lady Statesmen Set To Host CBU, No.9 Union

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State University women's basketball (5-0, 2-0 GSC) begins a two-game home stand against Christian Brothers University (2-3, 0-2 GSC) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before hosting No. 9/5 Union University (8-0, 2-0 GSC) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.

  • Senior Chelsey Rhodes scored 33 points to lead the Lady Statesmen past the University of West Alabama, 57-51 last Saturday.  The outing marked Rhodes' second 30-plus point outing and her 62nd double figure performance of her career. 
  • Rhodes was named the GSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week, averaging 21.5 points, 3.5 steals and three assists. Rhodes is the first back-to-back GSC Player of Week honoree since Veronica Walker, Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, 2012.
  • The Lady Statesmen are 2-0 at home this season and have won nine straight home games, dating to a 73-69 loss to West Florida (12.20.14).
  • Delta State enters the latest D2SIDA Media Poll ranked No. 21 and received votes in this week's WBCA USA Today Coaches Poll.
