LEADOFFDelta State University softball continued its hot streak at the UAH Charger Chillout over the weekend, posting a 5-1 record to improve to 7-1 overall.
The Lady Statesmen earned wins over Maryville (5-2), Montevallo (10-2), Ohio Dominican (5-4), Kentucky Wesleyan (4-1), and Southern Arkansas (3-2). The only loss came against No. 9 North Georgia (11-7).
This is the strongest start to a season by the softball program in the seven-year tenure of head coach
Casey Bourgoyne-Charles.
The freshmen on the pitching staff recorded every win in the Chillout.
Taylor Johnson went 2-0 on the weekend to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Kory Watterson picked up the GSC Player of the Week honor for her performance at the Chillout. The junior infielder went 9-for-11 and drove in 10 runs.
Delta State opens conference play this week against the Tigers of West Alabama. Last season DSU dropped the series with UWA on a 12-inning 15-10 loss in game three, after splitting the doubleheader in games one and two.
After the conference opening series with West Alabama, the Green-and-White will continue their road trip through the state of Alabama with doubleheaders against Stillman College on Tuesday, Feb. 17 and the University of Montevallo on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
