Lady Statesmen Host Mississippi College For Senior Night

GAME NOTES: Delta State Lady Statesmen vs Mississippi College (2.26.15)

CLEVELAND, Mississippi –  Delta State University women's basketball hosts Mississippi College in the regular season finale for both schools at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.  Thursday is also Senior Night with seniors Seneca Walton (Clarksdale, Mississippi), Rhandi Ball (Pontotoc, Mississippi) and Kenisha Henry (Carrollton, Mississippi) being honored following the game. Mississippi College captured a 76-69 win over the Lady Statesmen on Saturday, January 17 in Clinton in the first meeting this season.

Senior Night:  The Lady Statesmen will honor seniors  Seneca Walton (Clarksdale, Mississippi), Rhandi Ball (Pontotoc, Mississippi) and Kenisha Henry (Carrollton, Mississippi) after the Mississippi College game.  These seniors have amassed a 83-32 overall record and a 56-19 Gulf South Conference mark along with three NCAA South Regional Tournament appearances.

Delta State is 14-7 and sits in third place in the Gulf South Conference race entering the Mississippi College game. The Lady Statesmen will host Valdosta State in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m.

1.17.15 vs. MC:  Delta State lost to Mississippi College 74-69 at A.E. Wood Coliseum. Chelsey Rhodes scored 19 points led three Lady Statesmen in double figures. Seneca Walton had 14 points and eight rebounds and Rhandi Ball chipped in 12 points and four rebounds. (See Full Box Page 13).

Home Sweet Home: Delta State is 10-2 and have won six straight at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum this season. DSU is averaging 61.6 points while limiting opponents to 49.4 points per game, a +12.2 scoring margin. The Green and White have a +1.5 rebound margin and are shooting 42 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from 3-point range. Chelsey Rhodes is averaging 17 points per game, shooting 42 percent from 3-point range and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe. Walton is pulling down 6.6 rebounds per game and Rhandi Ball collects 6.5 rebounds per game. 

D-II South Region Rankings: The Lady Statesmen are ninth in this week's NCAA Division II South Regional rankings. Union followed by Nova Southeastern, Florida Tech, Eckerd, West Florida, Kentucky State. Rollins, Benedict, DSU and Tampa.

1K Point Club:  Seneca Walton scored five points against Lee  to move into 25th on the all-time scoring list with 1,236 points.  Chelsey Rhodes led DSU with 26 points versus Lee to remain 28th on the all-time scoring chart with 1,132 points. Rhandi Ball's has 1,042 career-points, four points from moving into 33rd.

Seneca Walton:6.8 rebounds/gm (7th/GSC); 12.3 ppg. (11th/GSC; 48.7 FG percentage (3rd/GSC); 0.9 blocks/gm (7th/GSC);  The Clarksdale, Mississippi, native has scored in double figures in 16-of-23 games, including four games with 20-plus points. Her 117 career blocks rank seventh and her 797 career rebounds rank 12th. She has three double-doubles this season against Union (1.29.15), at West Georgia (1.24.15) and at Shorter (2.19.15).

Lloyd Clark Court: The Walter Sillers court was officially named Lloyd Clark Court on Jan. 10, 2015. Clark led the Lady Statesmen program for 19 seasons, winning three NCAA Division II titles (1988-89, 1989-89, 1991-92) and 10 GSC Championships. The Drew, Mississippi, native compiled a 494-98 record and a 206-38 GSC mark.
