CLEVELAND, Mississippi. – Colton Welch's RBI single capped a three-run eighth that saw Delta State University (10-11) rally from a two-run deficit to capture an 8-7 win over Arkansas-Monticello (12-11) on Tuesday at Ferriss Field.

@DSUBaseball HOW IT HAPPENED- The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third. Jacob Swiney and Ben Pickard walked with one out to set up an Ethan Gill home run to left field giving the Statesmen a 3-0 lead.
- Arkansas-Monticello answered with three runs in the fourth to tie the game. Bronson Gillam, Nick Cerda and Mitchell Dornblut highlighted the inning with RBI base hits.
- Trent Giambrone reached on an error to start the Statesmen two-run fourth. Gimbrone advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jonathan Andrews RBI single. Andrews later scored on a Gill single to center to making the score 5-3.
- UAM scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-5 lead. Evan Comeau doubled, then scored on a Kevin Fitzpatrick double and the left fielder came home on a Corey Wood single in the fifth. Dornblut doubled and Comeau reached on a two-out walk. Dornblut scored on a dropped infield pop up and Comeau came home on a Brian Ray RBI single in the sixth.
- Delta State regained a 8-7 lead with a three-run eighth. Andrews walked and Brandon Cummins singled to start the inning. Swiney followed with RBI single to right scoring Dalton Skelton, who pinch ran for Andrews, while Cummins advanced to third on the play. Cummins came home on the next play on a Pickard sac-fly to left to tie the game at 7-7. Colton Welch's single to left scored Swiney to give the Statesmen an 8-7 lead.
- Westin Stringer (1-0) entered the game to get the final out in the eighth to earn the win for the Statesmen and Nick Goza closed the game with a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
- Dawson Moser (0-2) was the pitcher of record for UAM, allowing two runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning.
- Gill went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Swiney was 3-for-5 with two runs score and an RBI. Andrews and Cummins each had two hits.
STAT OF THE GAME- The Statesmen are 4-2 in their last six one-run games and 5-7 overall this season.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- DSU starter Jack Brumfield went 3.2 innings and struck out four batters, both season and career-highs for the junior transfer from Pearl River Community College.
- The comeback was the Statesmen third comeback win in four games and the second when trailing in the eighth inning.
- Statesmen Head Coach Mike Kinnison earned win number 795 against UAM and is now five wins away from 800 victories.
- Both of the Statesmen mid-week games at Ferriss Field this season have come against Great American Conference opponents. The Green and White are 1-1 falling to Southern Arkansas 6-5 (3.11).
