LEADOFF
Delta State University softball (14-14, 5-9 GSC) travels to Lee University (22-12, 12-8 GSC) this weekend for Gulf South Conference play. The road trip to Cleveland, Tenn., marks the first trip to Lee in series history.

The Lady Statesmen and Lady Flames met three times last season in a three-game regular season conference series. DSU took the series victory, taking two games out of three. Delta State dropped game one, 5-3, but bounced back to win two straight in the Saturday doubleheader, 6-3 and 6-5.

Kaitlin Moore led the offensive attack in that series going 4-for-9 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Delta State and Lee are both batting .310 on the season, which ranks fourth in the league. The Lady Flames are led by Lexie Dean who is batting .410, while DSU is led by the league-leader in batting average Amber Adcock with a .469.

The Lady Flames currently rank fifth in the GSC standings; however, with Lee being in the provisionary stages of NCAA Division II membership, the Lady Flames are not eligible for postseason play. Delta State maintains the six spot with Lee and Mississippi College ineligible.

The Lady Statesmen are coming off a much-needed series win over West Georgia last weekend. They earned their second run-rule victory of the season in game one 8-0, dropped game two 8-4, and took the deciding game three 7-4.

Five of the Green-and-White hitters are batting over .300- Adcock (.469), Kaitlin Moore (.389), Kassidy Tally (.364), Kory Watterson (.364), and Memrie Corley (.317).

Senior Adcock and junior Moore are now tied for third with 45 apiece in career doubles in the Delta State record books. They are chasing Laura Simpson's (1996-99) career doubles record (48).

Adcock is also tied for fourth in career hits with 220 over a four-year span. The Brandon, Miss., native tied Meredith Coleman (2003-06) with her performance in game three against West Georgia. The top spot is held by Alyse Hasty (2003-06) with 292.

Junior Kassidy Tally continues to build on her record for most stolen bases in a career at Delta State and in the GSC. She now has 143 and has only been caught stealing ten times over three years. The 5-foot-8 speedster is in the hunt for another record, career runs scored. She ranks fifth with 119 and is looking to top Hasty's 202.

Up next for the Green-and-White is midweek action against the Falcons of the University of Montevallo. The Lady Statesmen will travel to Montevallo, Ala., for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 8. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
