VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lady Statesmen softball team of Delta State University will take on North Alabama to open Gulf South Conference Tournament play.

LEADOFFNo. 6 Delta State University softball (26-22, 11-15 GSC) opens Gulf South Conference Tournament action against No. 3 North Alabama (32-10, 17-9 GSC) on Thursday, April 30 at 9 a.m.
The Lady Statesmen offense ranks fourth in the league in hitting with an overall .305 batting average. North Alabama is close behind in fifth with a .304 average.
UNA's pitching ranks second in the GSC with a 1.75 ERA. They are led by Hillary Carpenter (17-4) with a .99 ERA and BreeAnna Blevins (13-6) with a 2.57 ERA.
Both teams are coming off of conference series losses to end the season: North Alabama against Shorter and Delta State against West Florida.

Amber Adcock leads the DSU offense and ranks third in the league with a .403 batting average. Six others are batting over .300-

Kaitlin Moore (.351),
Kory Watterson (.327),
Mariah Alvarez (.320),
Taylor Holland (.304), and
Memrie Corley (.302).
Several Lady Statesmen have earned spots in the career record book at Delta State. Adcock ranks first in doubles (50), second in hits (244), and third in RBIs (137). Moore is close behind Adcock in doubles with 47. Holland holds the top spot in walks with 87. Tally remains first in the GSC and DSU record books in career stolen bases with 159 and is first among active players in NCAA Division II for most career stolen bases. She is third in most career runs scored with 132.
Four Lady Statesmen were named to the All-GSC teams. Adcock and Tally were selected to the first team, while Moore and Holland were named to the second team.
With a win, Delta State will play Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday, April 30 at 3 p.m. With a loss, DSU will play the loser of the Shorter and Union game on Friday, May 1 at 10 a.m.
