He was named MAIS Player of the Year and was selected to the Mississippi All-State Team. Dailey will also compete for immediate playing opportunities as an incoming freshman.
Four junior transfers highlight the spring recruiting class for Statesmen hoops. James Kilpatrick, a 6-foot-4 guard, started 25 of 34 games at Cincinnati State, averaging 7.5 rebounds and 9.4 points per game, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field. He was named to the Ohio Community Athletic Conference All-Second Team. Terry Morris comes to DSU from Copiah-Lincoln Community College where he averaged 14 points, six assists, and four rebounds per game. The 6-foot-1 point guard played in the Mississippi JUCO All-Star Game in 2015 and was named Mississippi JUCO All-Region. While at Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Morris led his team to the Mississippi State Championship Class 6A as a junior
. "Terry will compete for significant playing time as a ball handling guard. We love his quickness and high basketball IQ along with his toughness and leadership abilities."
LaJustin Anderson transfers from Northwest Mississippi Community College. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 10.3 points per game, shot 48 percent from field goal range and 37 percent from beyond the arc from 2013-14 at Co-Linn, where he played his freshman season. Off the court, Anderson was named to Phi Theta Kappa while at Northwest. "LaJustin is a very athletic and talented scorer and brings a strong on-ball defensive presence, as well. We are excited about his future as a Statesman."
A 6-foot-8 post from Mississippi Valley State, Elijah Okagbare also played at Community College of Rhode Island. Okagbare, from Atlanta, Ga., prepped at Boston Trinity Academy and led the team to the NEPSAC Championship
. "Elijah will be looked upon for much needed depth at the center position. His size and strength coupled with his passion to compete will be a valuable asset to our team."
One sophomore transfer, John Cornish from Pearl River Community College, was also added to the roster. Cornish, a 6-foot-4 forward/guard, started in 24 of 29 games as a freshman, averaged 7.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game and was an integral part of Pearl River's State Championship run. Cornish shot a team-high 53 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point land, while recording a season-high 20 points against Jones County Community College. "John is a very skilled player with great ability to shoot the 3-point shot. This will allow him to stretch the defense, but we are most excited about his toughness and diversity. These attributes will make him a steadfast defender on our perimeter and in the post areas."
Rounding out the Statesmen recruiting class will be two spring freshmen signees in Bien Harbin and Malik Carothers.
Harbin prepped at Faith Academy High School in Mobile, Ala. A 6-foot-8 post player, he shot 47 percent from the field and brought down 173 rebounds as a senior for an average of 5.6 rebounds per game. He was selected to the 2014 USA Junior National Team and was selected as most improved player
. "Bien has tremendous potential and is a terrific young man. In every way he is exactly what we look for in a player, and we are most excited about his future in our program."
Carothers, from Bowling Green High School in Kentucky, led his team to the prestigious Sweet Sixteen State Tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington, finishing as the runner-up. He completed his senior season with an incredible 9 to 1 assist to turnover ratio with 147 total assists. He was all-district, all-region, and was awarded the Best and Brightest Leadership Award at the KHSAA State Tournament. "Malik, will provide us with depth in our ball handling guard position. His strength and sureness as a ball handler will make him a great fit, and we are definitely excited about his decision to become a Statesmen."
Boone continued, "We are very excited about our incoming recruiting class, as we have addressed several of our program's needs moving forward, both for our short and long term continued success. However, what I am most pleased with is the character of our incoming class, their academic success, and the toughness that each brings to Delta State Basketball."
