Statesmen Soccer Travels to Boca Raton to Face No.1 Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's soccer team returns to action on Friday, Sept. 11 as it travels to Boca Raton, Fla., for the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Men's Soccer Classic hosted by Lynn University.
 
The Statesmen face No. 1 ranked Lynn on Friday before ending the tournament with a contest against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday.
 
ABOUT DSU:
 
  • The Statesmen are 0-1 after falling to Montevallo 2-1 in double overtime in the season-opener on Thursday Sept. 3. DSU played one half in a neutral site contest against Nova Southeastern before the match was halted due to weather.
  • Luke Mason scored the lone goal in the Montevallo contest. It was the second career goal for the Tupelo, Miss., native. 
  • Amine Rahmani needs just one point to move into second in the DSU record book. Rahmani, who is the school record holder with 13 assists, has collected 31 points during his career. His 14 points in 2014 tied for 10th in single-season program history.
  • Jacob Hauenstein collected six saves versus Montevallo, which currently leads the Gulf South Conference.
 
 
ABOUT LYNN:
 
  • The Fighting Knights are currently ranked No. 1 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
  • Lynn claimed the 2014 NCAA Championship with a 3-2 victory over Charleston.
  • The Fighting Knights defeated Colorado Christian 10-0 in their season opener on Sept. 5.
  • Chris Hellmann leads Lynn with four goals.
 
 
ABOUT PALM BEACH ATLANTIC:
 
  • Palm Beach Atlantic has started its season 3-0. The Sailfish have recorded victories over Georgian Court (7-2), North Georgia (6-0) and Colorado Christian (5-0).
  • Lucas DaSilva leads PBA with five goals. Jermaine Metz leads the team with four assists.
  • The Sailfish are a provisional member of the Sunshine State Conference.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic has outshot its opponents 86-11.
 
 
INSIDE THE SERIES:
 
  • DSU is 0-4 against its two opponents. The Statesmen are 0-3 versus Lynn and fell 2-1 in the only meeting versus Palm Beach Atlantic in 2008.
