Statesmen Soccer Falls in Double Overtime to Open Season

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Montevallo scored a pair of unanswered goals, including the match-winner with just over 1:30 left in the second overtime period to earn a 2-1 victory over Delta State University in the season opener for both teams on Thursday at Delta Field.

Luke Mason scored the opener for the Statesmen when he converted a 2-on-1 breakaway attempt in the 13th minute. Mason's tally was the second of his career.
 
Statesman keeper Jacob Hauenstein kept the Statesmen ahead with a saved penalty kick in the 65th minute.
 
Kevin Francis tied the contest in the 85th minute as he followed up a rebound by Josh Keller.
 
Nikola Klacar scored the match-winner in the 109th minute as he headed in a cross from Sebastian Kraus.
