Boone Eclipses Career Milestone in 97-74 Victory over UNA

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Head Coach Jim Boone recorded his 400th career win at the NCAA Division II level in Delta State University's 97-74 win over North Alabama on Saturday afternoon.

    How It Happened
  • Four lead changes and one tie occurred in the opening six minutes of play. Delta State maintained the lead, 9-8, at the 13:55 mark on 4-of-5 field goals with contributions from Devin Schmidt, Zelvin Smith, and Declan Harrick.
  • The Statesmen built their lead to 13-8 on a Schmidt jumper with 11:53 to go in the half.
  • North Alabama fought back to tie the game at 22-22 before DSU compiled a 10-0 run to extend its advantage to 32-24 with 2:54 remaining before halftime.
  • Delta State took a 36-25 lead into the locker room at the break.
  • The Lions used an 8-0 run to reach within three, 46-43, with 14:47 left to play before the Statesmen sparked a 13-4 run to go up 59-47.
  • DSU kept the momentum through the rest of the contest and continued to build on its lead, gaining the largest margin of 25, 94-69, on a John Cornish 3-pointer with 1:06 remaining on the game clock.

  • PJ Davis and Zelvin Smith tied career-highs. Davis recorded seven blocks and Smith recorded 18 points.

  • Madgen's eight points puts him within six points of eclipsing 1,000-career points.
