Big Third Quarter Helps Lady Statesmen Past CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn.  – Chelsey Rhodes, Aspriona Gilbert and Alondrea Rush scored in double figures to lead No. 22 Delta State University (15-3, 12-3 GSC) to a 75-53 win over Christian Brothers University (7-12, 5-10 GSC) on Saturday at Canale Arena. Rhodes led the Lady Statesmen with 26 points while Gilbert had 18 and Rush added 16.

  • Samantha Reeves gave Christian Brothers a 4-2 edge with 6:44 showing on the first quarter clock.
  • Delta State outscored the Lady Bucs 14-4 over the rest of the way to build a 16-8 lead on a Chelsey Rhodes layup as time expired in the first quarter.
  • CBU closed the gap to 27-23 on an Ashley Schaefer jump shot with 3:53 left in the second quarter.
  • Kaelin Kneeland's layup with 15 seconds remaining gave the Lady Statesmen a 36-28 halftime lead.
  • Rhodes scored 13 of her 14 third quarter points during a 15-4 run that allowed the Lady Statesmen to grab a 51-34 lead at the 3:04 mark.
  • Aspriona Gilbert made consecutive layups to give the Lady Statesmen a 56-39 lead heading to the final quarter.
