No. 22 Lady Statesmen Suffer First Home Loss To Argos

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – No. 22 Delta State University (15-4, 12-4 GSC) rallied from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit but came up short in a 64-58 loss to the University of West Florida (13-7, 11-5 GSC) on Thursday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.

How It Happened
  • Delta State held an early 4-0 lead only to see the Argos go on an 8-0 run to take a 10-4 edge with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen outscored West Florida 11-2 to close the first quarter leading 15-2 after a Mary Carol Davis 3-pointer with five seconds left.
  • An 11-2 run extended to 15-2 run early in the second quarter, as the Lady Statesmen built a 19-12 lead on an Anissa Jackson jump shot at the 8:38 mark.
  • Jackson, who had six points in the second quarter, made back-to-back baskets to give DSU a 26-23 lead with 1:23 left.
  • Courtney Meyer made two free throws with two seconds left to cut the Lady Statesmen lead to 26-25 at the half.
  • West Florida built a 56-44 lead on a pair of Katie Bobos free throws with 6:28 remaining in the final quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen cut the deficit to 58-55 on two Jackson free throws with 2:04 to go.
  • Alondrea Rush connected on a 3-pointer with 11.4 seconds left to trail 62-58, but Belle Bistrow made two free throws to seal the 64-58 win for the Argos.

  • Jackson finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Kaelin Kneeland added eight points and nine rebounds.
  • Toni Brewer's 15 points and 10 rebounds led four Argos in double-figures. Meyer followed with 14 points, while Alex Coyne chipped in 12 points and Juanisha Young had 10.
  • The Lady Statesmen suffered their first home loss of the season, falling to 9-1. The loss also snapped a 15-game home winning streak dating back to last year's 74-69 overtime loss to West Florida (12.20.14).
