Statesmen Soccer Set for Final GSC Road Trip

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State men's soccer team will wrap up its Gulf South Conference schedule with road contests on Friday, Oct. 21, versus Shorter University and on Sunday, Oct. 23, against Lee University. Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST and 2:30 p.m. CST on Sunday.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES: 
  • Shorter leads the series 4-1 against Delta State. This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools since the series started in 2012.
  • The Statesmen lost 3-0 against Shorter last season.
  • DSU is currently 0-4-1 in its series with Lee.
  • In the last meeting between the two teams, Lee defeated Delta State 5-3.
 
ABOUT DSU:  
  • The Statesmen are currently 5-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.
  • DSU's scoring offense currently ranks fifth in the Gulf South Conference. The Statesmen rank fourth in points per game in the GSC with 4.38.
  • The Statesmen have scored 22 goals on the season, which ranks fifth in the conference.
  • They enter Friday's match coming off a tough 2-1 loss against conference rival, Christian Brothers University.
  • Ricardo Filho leads the Statesmen offense with five goals and 10 points.
  • Ashley Walker is second on the team in goals with three in 14 games played.
  • Peyton Marter leads the team in assists with three. Connor Hogg, Brock Hollier and Anthony Fernandez are close behind with two apiece.
  • Freshmen Zachary Breaux and Mikey Rhodes have made an impact on the pitch scoring two goals apiece on the season.
 
ABOUT SHORTER:
  • The Hawks are 5-5-1 and are second in the GSC standings with a 4-1-1 record.
  • In 11 games, Shorter has found the back of the net 18 times and is averaging 15.5 shots per game.
  • Darwin Lom leads the Hawks' offense and currently ranks second for goals in the GSC with nine. He has 41 shots, 18 shots on goal and 20 points. Mauricio Rancel is right behind with three goals and one assist. Jordan Etsio also has three goals on the season. 
  • In goal, Austen Trevers has posted two shutouts, made 63 saves and allowed 21 goals in the back of the net.   
 
ABOUT LEE:
  • Lee is currently 8-5-1 and 3-2-1 in the GSC.
  • The Flames are averaging 13.9 shots per game and 2.07 goals per game.
  • David Perez leads the Flames' offense and ranks third in the GSC in goals with eight and assists with six assists. He has 22 points, 46 shots, and 22 shots on goal. Quade Marinell is right behind with five goals, Drew Jackson has four goals and four assists and Jose Orellana has three goals and six assists, which ranks first in the GSC.
  • In goal, Daniel Hrenko has posted three shutouts, faced 122 shots, made 45 saves and allowed nine goals.
 
UP NEXT: The Statesmen will wrap up the season at home against Lindenwood University on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Delta Field.
