CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State University men's basketball head coach
Jim Boone announced on Friday that Matthew Wilson signed to play with the Statesmen basketball team.
The 6-foot-2 combination guard averaged 23 points, six rebounds and five assists per game, as he was named 5A All-State as a junior.
"Matthew is an awesome young man who will be an asset to the DSU community, both on and off the court," Boone said. "He is an outstanding pure shooter, has great ball skills, and has the passion and toughness that we search for in a member of our team. We are thrilled to have Matthew as part of our program."
The Farmington, Arkansas native is the first addition to the class of 2017 after playing at Farmington High School under head coach Beau Thompson.
"Matthew is a special combination of athletic ability, talent, and work ethic," Thompson said. "He epitomizes everything that is good about athletics. Not only will he bring skill, but he will bring character and leadership that is asked of all players in Coach Boone's program."
The Statesmen are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 22, as they open up the home schedule against LeMoyne-Owen College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
