Statesmen Run Past LeMoyne-Owen In Home Opener

CLEVELAND, Mississippi - Senior James Kilpatrick tallied 20 points and six rebounds as the Statesmen ran past LeMoyne-Owen College 89-61 to open up the home schedule at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

How It Happened
  • Delta State and LeMoyne-Owen were off to a fast start offensively to start the game.
  • Sophomore Brett Warner was 3-for-6 from the field and led with seven points in the first seven minutes to give the Statesmen the lead, 16-15.
  • The Statesmen led 20-15 with 10:44 left to go in the first half after a layup by Senior James Kilpatrick.
  • Kilpatrick hit back-to-back layups to extend the Statesmen lead by 11 points late in the first half.
  • DSU closed out the first half 47-27, on a 13-0 run with late buckets from Cedric Harper, John Cornish and Kilpatrick.
  • Kilpatrick and Harper led DSU with 16 and 11 points, respectively in the opening half. Rashawn Brown led LOC with seven first half points.

Notables
  • Cornish broke his career high with 12 points and matched his career high in rebounds with three.
  • Kilpatrick also broke his career high in points with 20 for the night.
  • The Statesmen scored a season high 89 points and held the visitors to only 61 points.
