CLEVELAND, Mississippi - Coming off of an emotional victory in its home opener, the Delta State University women's basketball team is primed for a pair of games against the Miles College Golden Bears and the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws this week.

TIP-OFF NEWS AND NOTES
- Last time out, the Lady Statesmen rallied on multiple occasions including being down by as many as seven points in a 60-54 victory against Southern Arkansas at Walter Sillers Coliseum on Nov. 22 for their first win of the 2016-17 campaign.
- Senior Anissa Jackson helped the Lady Statesmen in the win, notching season-highs in points (13), rebounds (6) assists (3). Jackson also went 5-for-10 from the floor and played 34 minutes.
- Delta State will look to continue to defend its home court, which has been more than kind to the program. Since the start of the 2008 season, the Lady Statesmen have turned in a record of 101-7 at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
- Sophomore point guard Alondrea Rush has provided a big spark for the Lady Statesmen this season. A year removed from starting all but one game at guard as a freshman, Rush leads the team in a plethora of categories.
- Rush currently paces the Lady Statesmen in points per game (11.0), assists per game (3.0), steals per game (3.3), free throws made (9), three-point field goals (6) and minutes per game (34.0) through the first three contests.
- Senior Kaelin Kneeland has also gotten off to a fast start, particularly when it comes to rebounding the basketball. Kneeland's 8.3 rebounds per game leads the team. Kneeland has also pulled down 10 offensive rebounds. The Lady Statesmen have out-rebounded all three of their opponents.
- The Lady Statesmen sported the No 1. defense in NCAA Division II last season, giving up just 50.3 points per game. That mark was also tops in the GSC. Delta State is currently 3rd in the GSC in scoring defense, yielding 56.7 points per contest.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
- Miles enters the game averaging 70.2 points per game, including a pair of 80 point outputs. Freshman guard Victoria Sutton and seniors Larian Scott and Javonne Brown have helped spearhead the Golden Bears attack in the early part of the season. Each player has averaged in double figures in multiple games this year.
- Mississippi College is off to a 1-1 start, splitting home games with Lane College (lost 69-66) and Henderson State (won 74-72). The Lady Choctaws have three players averaging in double figures, including seniors Toni Woods (14.0 ppg, 14.0 rpg) and Ashley Minor (11.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg) and junior Cortrice Golden (12.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg).
