CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Delta State University women's basketball team held Union University to just two points in the third quarter to earn a 51-41 Gulf South Conference victory, on Saturday afternoon at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

How It Happened:
 

• The Lady Statesmen opened the contest on a 7-0 run, using a pair of buckets by Kaelin Kneeland.
• DSU held the visitors without a field goal until Bria Gaines knocked down a jumper with 5:32 left in the quarter.
• The Lady Statesmen took advantage on the glass, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds in the first quarter.
• Union trimmed the DSU lead to 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, and took its first lead of the game at 17-16, on a layup by Jada Perkins.
• The teams traded the lead, before Perkins gave the Lady Bulldogs a 25-24 lead going into halftime.
• Union shot 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) in the first half, while DSU was just 11-of-30 (36.7 percent). Gaines led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points on 6-of-7 from the floor. Kneeland led DSU with six points and five rebounds.
• The Lady Statesmen held a commanding 23-11 edge on the glass, which included 13 offensive boards, leading to nine second chance points.
• DSU stormed out of the locker room, going on a 12-2 run, holding Union to just one field goal in the quarter.
• Union responded with a 10-2 run to open the fourth quarter, cutting the DSU lead to 38-37 with 5:59 left.
• DSU answered right back, with an 8-0 spurt of its own, to take a 45-37 lead with 3:18 left.
• The Lady Statesmen hit six free throws over the final 1:20 to hold on for the victory.
• Union finished 18-of-47 (38.3 percent) from the floor, including just 7-for-23 (30.4 percent) in the second half. The Green-and-White finished just 19-of-59 (32.2 percent from the floor), but held a dominant 45-25 edge on the glass, including 22 offensive boards, helping lead to a 17-0 advantage in second chance points.
• Gaines led Union with 18 points and seven rebounds.
• Kneeland led DSU with 17 points and 11 boards, while Alondrea Rush also had 17, including 12 in the second half.
• Ieysha Mays pulled down a career high 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.

• The Lady Statesmen held Union to its lowest point total since a 61-43 setback to Freed-Hardeman on Nov. 8, 2012.
