Lee’s Buzzer Beater Trips Lady Statesmen, 54-53

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Haris Price made a layup with 0.2 seconds left to give Lee University (17-8, 14-6 GSC) a 54-53 win over Delta State University (18-5, 15-5 GSC) on Saturday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum.

How It Happened
  • The Lady Statesmen took a 7-2 lead after a Chelsey Rhodes 3-pointer with 5:31 left in the half.
  • A Flames layup with 24 seconds left cut the Lady Statesmen lead to 11-9 heading into the second period.
  • Kaelin Kneeland made a jumper and a Becca Ruckes free throw gave DSU a 22-13 advantage at the 4:22 mark of the second quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen carried a 27-21 lead into halftime after a Rhodes layup with 25 seconds left.
  • Delta State kept the lead between 6-8 points throughout the third quarter taking a 41-35 lead into the final quarter.
  • Lee cut the lead to 46-45 on a Price layup and then grabbed its first lead of the game on a Erin Walsh 3-pointer with 3:52 remaining.
  • A three-point play by Mary Carol Davis gave DSU a 49-48 lead with 3:18 to go followed by Anissa Jackson increased the lead to 51-48 with 2:57 left in the fourth.
  • Jackson made two free throws give DSU a 53-50 lead with 59 seconds to go.
  • Price made a layup to cut the lead to 53-52 with 41 seconds showing.
  • The Lady Statesmen did not score on their next offensive possession giving the ball back to Lee with 14 seconds left setting up Prices game-winning layup at the buzzer.

  • The game marked the final regular season home game for three Lady Statesmen seniors Chelsey Rhodes, Becca Ruckes and Antionette Riddle.
  • The loss dropped the Lady Statesmen into a tie with Lee for the second seed in the GSC standings with a 15-6 record.
  • Rhodes' 16 points increased her career points total to 1,673 points and passing pass Tanya Redmond (1,662 pts./1995-98) and Caroline Boclair (1,632 pts/1998-01) for sixth.
  • Rhodes went 1-for-7 from 3-point range and is now 194-of-583 for her career from long range, ranking second in both categories.
