CLEVELAND, Miss. - Chelsey Rhodes, Aspriona Gilbert and Becca Ruckes scored in double figures to lead No. 22 Delta State University (16-4, 13-4 GSC) to a 51-38 win over Valdosta State University (11-11, 7-10 GSC) on Saturday at Lloyd Clark Court-Walter Sillers Coliseum. Rhodes led the Lady Statesmen with 16 points followed by Gilbert with 14 and Ruckes with 12.

How It Happened
  • Valdosta State held a 6-4 lead with 2:36 left in the first quarter before Delta State went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-6 lead into the second quarter.
  • The lead jumped to 15-6 on an Aspriona Gilbert jumper in the paint at the 6:05 mark of the second quarter.
  • Gilbert made a layup and a free throw to increase the DSU lead to 21-10 with 4:47 left in the second.
  • The Lady Statesmen held an 11-6 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Blazers 12-8 in the second to hold a 23-14 halftime lead.
  • A Gilbert jump shot with 3:45 to go in the third quarter gave DSU its biggest lead, 35-18.
  • Madi Mitchell made a pair of free throws to cut VSU's deficit to 37-22 at the end of the third.
