CLEVELAND, Miss. – No. 23/17 University of West Florida (27-12, 19-7 GSC) scored six unanswered runs on the way to a 6-1 win over No. 12 Delta State University (28-12, 19-7 GSC) in the series finale on Sunday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field. The Argos claimed the series 2-1 and took over first place in the Gulf South Conference with two series remaining in the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen got a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Brandon Cummins singled and scored on a Will Robertson sac-fly, his 56th RBI of the year.
- Robert Lopez and Nic Strasser had RBI singles in the second to give UWF a 2-1 lead.
- West Florida used a three-run seventh to build the lead to 4-1. Jean Figurora tripled and scored on a throwing error. Alex Greene singled in a run and Ledeavon Matthews had a run scoring double.
- Strasser belted a leadoff solo home run in the ninth to give the Argos a 6-1 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.
- Jarrod Petree entered the game with one out in the ninth to record a strikeout and a pop out to close the game
- Starter Justin Vincent (4-3) was the pitcher of record for the Statesmen. Vincent yielded five runs, one earned, on seven hits with a strikeout over 6.1 innings pitched.
- UWF starter JT. Granat (7-3) worked 8.1 innings allowing one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk to earn the win.

- The series loss snapped the Statesmen's string of 18 straight GSC home series wins dating back to a series loss to Valdosta State (3.24-25.12).
