TAMPA, Fla.  – No. 11 Nova Southeastern University (37-15) sprinted out to a 6-0 lead on the way to a 9-4 victory over No. 14 Delta State University (40-15) at the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament on Saturday at the Tampa Baseball Complex. The loss was the first in the tournament for the Statesmen, who will play the West Florida/West Georgia winner in an elimination game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (CDT).

HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Nova Southeastern scored two runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead. Michael Hernandez had an RBI triple and scored on a Kavan Thompson sac-fly in the second. Brandon Gomez belted a two-run home run in the third.
- The Sharks added two runs in the sixth on a two-run home run by Jake Anchia to extend the lead to 6-0.
- Ethan Gill launched a three-run home run to left-center to cut the Nova lead to 6-3 in the sixth. The home run was Gill's eighth of the season and is tied for second on the team with Will Robertson.
- Nova Southeastern added to the lead with a three-run eighth. The first run came home on a fielder's choice, before Jancarlos Cintron delivered a two-run single making the score 9-3.
- Luke Stanley had a leadoff pinch-hit double and scored on a Will Robertson sac-fly to finish the scoring in the ninth.
- Justin Vincent (5-5) suffered the loss for the Statesmen, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks in 2.1 innings.
- Alex Cline (3-1) struck out seven and gave up three runs on five hits through 5.2 innings of work.
- Brandon Cummins went 3-for-4 and Colton Welch was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Statesmen at the plate.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
	- Delta State had a six-game winning streak snapped dating back to a 6-2 loss to Mississippi College (5.1.16).
- The Statesmen struck out a season-high 14 times. The previous high was at North Alabama on March 25.
- Will Robertson's double in the sixth was his school record 28th this season.
- Delta State lost its fourth straight game to the Sharks and fell to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in NCAA tournament play.
