CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State men's soccer team will travel to Alabama for a pair of Gulf South Conference matches starting with the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and then the University of West Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
INSIDE THE SERIES:
- Alabama-Huntsville leads the all-time series 14-2, including a 2-0 victory in Cleveland in 2015.
- West Alabama leads the series with Delta State 4-1-1. The Tigers secured a 1-0 victory over the Statesmen on Sept. 25, 2015.
ABOUT DSU:
- Delta State is currently 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
- The Statesmen have scored 15 goals on the season and rank third in the GSC, averaging 2.1 goals per game.
- They enter Friday's match coming off a 1-0 overtime loss against GSC opponent West Florida.
- Junior Ricardo Filho leads the Green-and-White with five goals and 10 points. He ranks third in goals and points in the GSC.
- Sophomore Connor Hogg is second on the team with two goals and two assists in seven games played. Senior Andrew Aur and Freshman Zachary Breaux are right behind with two goals apiece.
- Peyton Marter leads the team with three assists.
ABOUT ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE:
- The Chargers are 2-5 and have yet to play a conference match.
- In seven games, Alabama-Huntsville has found the back of the net nine times, which ranks second to last in the conference, and averages 15.3 shots per game.
- At home, they are 1-4, averaging 1.2 goals per game.
- Hermann Bjornsson, Tucker Watts and James Narke lead the Chargers' offense. Bjornsson has three goals, 33 shots (eight on goal) and six points. Watts has two goals and two assists, 10 shots (four shots on goal) and six points. Narke also has two goals, 10 shots--half of which were on goal--and four points.
- Goalkeeper Myles Fullen has started all seven matches and enters play with 31 saves, allowing 12 goals in the back of the net.
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA:
- West Alabama is currently 4-3 and has yet to play a GSC match.
- The Tigers are averaging 15.4 shots per game and have tallied 21 goals on the season, which ranks second in the GSC.
- At home, they are 2-1, averaging 4.3 goals per game.
- Stephen Carroll leads the Tigers' offense with four goals and two assists, seven shots (seven on goal) and 10 points. AJ Williams also has four goals, eight shots (five on goal) and eight points.
- In goal, Brad Louis has started six games and has recorded 23 saves and allowed nine goals.
UP NEXT: The Statesmen will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to take on William Carey University for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
