Lady Statesmen Host Christian Brothers, Union to Begin GSC Schedule

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Delta State University women's basketball team is set to open its home and Gulf South Conference schedules when it hosts Christian Brothers University on Thursday, Nov. 30, before closing out the week with Union on Saturday, Dec. 2.

TIP-OFF NEWS AND NOTES
  • The Lady Statesmen and CBU will face off for the 47th time, with Delta State leading the all-time series 42-4. DSU is a perfect 22-0 all-time versus CBU in Cleveland.  
  • Saturday's game marks the 14th meeting all-time between the Lady Statesmen and Union, with Delta State owning an 8-5 advantage, including a 5-1 mark at Sillers Coliseum.
  • The Lady Statesmen enter play 0-4 after dropping a 46-41 contest at Miles on Monday, Nov. 27.
  • Just one of DSU's four losses was by more than six points. The Green-and-White have held a lead in the second half in all but one of its games.
  • The Lady Statesmen lead the GSC in scoring defense, allowing just 54.2 points per game.
  • In all four of its games, DSU has held opponents to at least one quarter of 11 points or less.
  • Christian Brothers Notes: The Lady Bucs enter play 1-3 after dropping a narrow 42-40 contest at home against Arkansas Monticello on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Rafaella Angelidou leads CBU with 11.3 points per game. Kelsey Adkins leads the Lady Bucs with six rebounds per game. CBU ranks 12th in the league, averaging just 53.2 points per game.
  • Union Notes: The Bulldogs enter the week 5-1 after dropping its first contest of the year, an 87-79 setback, at Drury on Saturday, Nov. 25. Union is led by Chelsey Shumpert, who has been named GSC Player of the Week three straight times. The Paducah, Ky., native leads NCAA Division II with 27 three pointers made and ranks fourth with 24.8 points per game. Union ranks second in the league with 83.2 points per game.
