CLEVELAND, Miss. – Visiting Union University outscored the Delta State University women's basketball team 36-23 in the first half and held on for a 69-62 win, in Gulf South Conference action, on Saturday afternoon at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

TURNING POINT:
- Union used a 12-1 run in the second quarter to take a 36-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen were 9-of-20 (45 percent) from the floor in the first half, while Union was 14-of-31 (45.2) percent. The Lady Bulldogs were aided by 11 second chance points.
- Union finished 25-of-51 (49 percent) from the floor, but went just 4-of-15 (27 percent) from three-point range. DSU shot 54 percent (17-of-31) in the second half to finish 26-of-51 (51 percent). The Lady Statesmen were 5-of-9 from long-range.
- The Lady Bulldogs dominated inside, scoring 40 second chance points to just eight for DSU.
- Union outrebounded the Lady Statesmen 28-25, including a 11-9 edge on the offensive boards. The Lady Bulldogs finished with 13 second chance points, while DSU had just eight.
- The Lady Bulldogs had just seven turnovers, while DSU had 11.
- Alondrea Rush led DSU with 22 points, while Takisha Jordan had 15. Alexis Ross added 10 for the Lady Statesmen.

INSIDE THE FLOW:
- Union held a 17-13 lead after the first quarter, taking advantage of 12 points in the paint and five points off of four DSU turnovers.
- The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of cold shooting by DSU, and went on a 12-1 run to take a 29-14 lead with 4:16 left in the half. DSU was held without a bucket until the 3:44 mark in the quarter, when Rush made a jumper as the shot clock expired. The Lady Statesmen got to within 29-21 on a Rush three-pointer with 2:03 left in the half, but Union responded with a 7-2 run to take a 36-23 lead into halftime.
- Chelsea Shumpert led all first half scorers with 18 points, with seven rebounds. Rush had 13 to lead DSU, while Erin Kate Richardson chipped in five.
- DSU stormed out of the locker room for the second half, going on an 11-4 run over the first four minutes. Takisha Jordan got the Lady Statesmen to within 47-46 when she converted a layup and a free throw with 18 seconds left in the quarter. DSU shot a blistering 10-of-13 (77 percent) in the frame, while holding Union to just 3-of-10.
- The visitors opened the fourth quarter with an 11-6 spurt over the opening 3:09 to lead 61-52 with 6:51 left. DSU responded, as Rush hit a jumper with 1:40 left to pull the Lady Statesmen to within 66-62, but Union used a Shumpert basket and free throw to seal the victory.
- After holding Union to 30 percent from the floor in third period, the Lady Bulldogs converted 8-of-10 in the final frame.
NOTABLES:
- In the loss, DSU dropped just its second home game in history to Union (5-2).
- Jordan finished with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-12 from the floor.
- Ross tied her career-high with 10 points.
- The 11 turnovers for DSU tied a season low.
- DSU held Union to its lowest scoring output of the season (69), which is 14 points below its season average.
- Union entered play having made double-digit three pointers in each game this season, but was held to just four.
- The 62 points for the Lady Statesmen are a season high.
