TIP-OFF NEWS AND NOTES
  • Delta State's series' against Lee and Shorter are relatively young, as this will be just the eighth meeting all-time against Lee and the 13th meeting all time against Shorter. The Lady Statesmen trail Lee 4-3 and lead Shorter 10-2.
  • The Lady Statesmen will look to avenge early season defeats at the hands of Lee and Shorter back on a road trip in the second week of December.
  • Delta State's defense has been stellar this season, particularly in the last four games. The last four times out, DSU has faced two of the conferences top offenses in North Alabalma and West Florida, and have held their opponents to 49.5 points per game in that stretch.
  • The Lady Statesmen have held the opposition to 55 points or less 14 times this season, including four times holding opponents to 48 points or less.
  • Sophomore point guard Alondrea Rush has been the go-to sharpshooter for DSU this season. Rush has been the only Lady Statesmen player to knock down a three in 12 games this season, and leads teh team with 46 three-pointers on 151 attempts. Rush is already 11th in school history in three-pointers attempted with still six games left to play in her sophomore campaign.
  • Senior Kaelin Kneeland has carried the Lady Statesmen in the post this year. Kneeland is second on the team at 11.8 points per game and also leads the team on the boards, snaring 6.4 rebounds per game. She has gone for nine or more rebounds seven times, has snared double-digit rebounds four times and has a pair of double-doubles. She has scored in double-figures 14 times this year, including three times going for 20 points or more.
  • With six games left in the season in the Gulf South Conference, Delta State is looking to rattle off a few wins to try and move up into a playoff spot. The Lady Statesmen are within one game of Union, Mississippi College and Shorter in the standings and sit just one game out of the seventh spot in the GSC standings.
  • For the Lee Flames, Erin Walsh has been torching the opposition this season, particularly lately. Lee owns the second-best records in the league both overall and in GSC play. Walsh is averaging 15.2 points per game. and has gone for 20 or more points six times this year. The junior is coming off of a 30-point performance against Alabama Huntsville where she went 10-of-17 from the field and 4-of-9 from three-point land.
  • DSU will face another prolific scorer in senior Taylor Adams. The second leading lady in the GSC in points per game (18.1) and the fourth leading rebounder (9.2) has been the go-to girl for the Hawks. Saturday's tilt will have major playoff implications, as both Shorter and DSU are looking to grab one of the final playoff spots as the season winds down.
