Brian Lane combined to drive in five runs to lead No. 23 Delta State University (15-7) to an 8-1 win over Mississippi Valley State University (2-11) on Wednesday at Magnolia Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi Valley loaded the bases with one out the bottom of the first but DSU starter Brady Chambley got Kevin Gonzalez to ground into an inning ending double play.
- The Statesmen cracked the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Juwan Burney walked followed by a Brian Lane single to set up a two-run double by Zack Shannon. Shannon scored on the next play when Clay Casey's single was miss played in by the MVSU left fielder.
- The Statesmen increased the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Nick Morgan led off with a double to right and scored on a Jason Popovich single.
- A two-run sixth grew the lead to 6-0. Morgan was hit by a pitch and Popovich singled and both came home on a Lane double down the left field line.
- Jackson Webb doubled to break up the no hitter and scored on an Ivan Garcia RBI single to cut MVSU's deficit to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
- Shannon belted his fourth home run of the season to lead off the ninth and Casey singled and advanced home on a double steal attempt to make the score 8-1.
ON THE MOUND
- Chambley (2-1) worked 4.2 scoreless innings, recording three strikeouts against two walks while not yielding a hit to earn the win.
- MVSU starter Jackson Webb (0-1) gave up four runs on eight hits and recorded three strikeouts to take the loss.
- Andy Borries relieved Chambley, allowing a run on three hits with a strikeout.
- Popovich made his first appearance on the mound, giving up a hit with a strikeout in the ninth.
NOTEABLES
- Shannon finished the day 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native recorded his sixth multi RBI game and ninth multi-hit game.
- Shannon's home run in the ninth was his fourth, tying him with Clay Casey for the team lead.
- Lane went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
- Clay Casey also turned in a 3-for-5 day with a double for his fifth multi-hit game.
- Popovich had two hits for his team-best 10th multi-hit game.
- Darek Sargent made his first career start, starting the game at second base.
- The Statesmen ended a two-game losing streak with the win.
